Bassist Avery Sharpe has made a bold statement with his latest project, 400: An African American Musical Portrait. His original compositions serve to chronicle the pain, hope, and triumph of the African American people. This new, original jazz music is flavored with gospel, spirituals, and blues. There are two pieces corresponding to each of the four centuries since the first African slaves were brought to Jamestown, Virginia, by the Dutch in 1619. $25. $15 students.
